5 tools you will love for making things with Polymer Clay!
I have a big collection of tools that I need for making my dolls house food but there are certain ones that I would be lost without!
If you are thinking about getting some polymer clay and making something new then the following tools are going to be something you want in your shopping basket too.
Corn Flour
I know. Weird one eh. But hear me out. When I first started creating things with PC I would quite often get frustrated because the clay would end up with finger prints and little bits of dust. I work with white and beige clay a lot so it showed up big time and it bugged me. So after some research and trying various things corn flour was the saviour! Now I don't start creating without it there handy. You can get it in any supermarket in the baking section. Just rub a little onto your hands before handling the clay.
2. Needle tool
This is a very handy tool for adding tiny detail to your creations. With my potato charms it's ideal for adding the little imperfections around the skin!

3. Old toothbrush
Get an old toothbrush and use it to add some texture to your clay. I use this when I make things like bread and cake. If you are making food items you will find you need this tool a lot.
4. Tin foil.
There are 2 ways I use tin foil - for covering my pieces when they are in the oven so they don't burn and to add texture to clay before it's baked. Roll it up into a ball and dab it over your clay to give a really defined texture!
5. Soft pastels
Add colour to your clay with pastels. I use these all the time for my food items, they are great for making bread and cake colours. You can build up the colour slowly until it's just right.
Without these tools I wouldn't be able to make my dolls house food or my food charms.
What tools do you need to create your polymer clay things? Let me know in the comments.
